How to Change MX Records – Godaddy

A mail exchanger record (MX record) is a type of resource record in the Domain Name System that specifies a mail server responsible for accepting email messages on behalf of a recipient’s domain, and a preference value used to prioritize mail delivery if multiple mail servers are available.

In the following example uses sample MX records. Be sure to enter the exact MX records shown in your activation email. Here we’ll modify MX records with GoDaddy

  • Log in to your account at www.godaddy.com.
  • Open the Domains tab and select My Domain Names. This will re-directed you to Manage Domains page.
  • Click the domain for whic you have to change the MX records.
  • Click the Total DNS Control And MX Records in the box with title Total DNS Control.
  • Delete all the existing MX Records
  • After you’ve deleted all existing MX Records, click Add New MX Record. This will open The MX (Mail Exchangers) Record Wizard
  • Enter priority value for For the Select the Priority Value drop-down menu. Then enter the Host Name and leave the default setting to @. The default Time to Live (TTL) value may be set to 1 Week for the Select TTL Value drop-down menu.  It will require one week for your MX records to propagate. You must enter shorter values like 1day or 1 hour, if you want a shorter propagation time. Next you have to enter the following MX records, including the trailing dots at the end of each record. Use your actual domain name — for example, webtamarin.com — in place of yourdomain

  • Click Continue.
  • Click Add to confirm each entry. The DNS Manager main page will reappear when you’ve finished.

Please remember that it will take time for the MX records to propagate throughout the Internet. This time will depend on the Time to Live (TTL) values you entered earlier.
